Since my last post, Richardt van Dyk, the friend that got stabbed and wound up in ICU, has passed on. I think it was on the Wednesday or the Thursday the week after the incident, I can't really remember now. He was declared brain dead earlier in the week, and his parents decided on a date to pull the plug, after his other relatives came to see him. But his heart failed again before that time, after which he passed on.

As bitter a pill it was to swallow, I was kind of relieved that his heart caused him to die, and that his parents didn't have to give the word to kill their own son. Small mercies, I guess.

His memorial service went over as well as can be expected. Tears were shed, people were met, etc.. But, overall, it feels like the circle of friends that are left behind are dealing with this pretty well. Maybe we're distracting each other, maybe we just grieve quickly, I dunno. But things seem OK for now.

My friend Tian had an alcohol-induced breakdown a few minutes ago (known in my area as "dronk verdriet") about our friend Richardt. Not really what I needed just at the time, but it put things in a bit more perspective, and it got me to look at how I've started handling bad situations like this. So, yeah, maybe it was what I needed in a way.

On a lighter note, I think I might start posting again soon, hopefully. I might start on a comic, who knows. Just give me some time.
